"My enemy's enemy is my friend". Driven by a fervent desire for a united, independent Ireland and a deep-seated hatred for the British, rather than any sort of agreement with the Nazi ideology, the IRA sought to leverage German support through sabotage campaigns and ambitious invasion plans like "Plan Kathleen." However, these efforts were ultimately undermined by the IRA's incompetence, internal disarray, and the eventual vigilance of both Irish and British intelligence. This unlikely alliance came to nothing, mostly due the strategic naivety of the IRA and the farcical nature of many German espionage attempts in Ireland.
