Microsoft, Google and Amazon—the tech giants of the world. Institutions like MIT—dream academic destinations for many Indian students. What do these tech giants and world's leading academic institutions have in common? According to a new UN report, these companies are funding, aiding, and abetting the genocide unfolding in Gaza. Last month, Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur for the occupied Palestinian territories and Gaza, released a report titled, From Economy of Occupation to Economy of Genocide. She says Israel’s economic control of Palestine has now transformed into an economy of mass destruction. And who's helping them? Dozens of corporations are named in the UN report. Their tech fuels destruction. Bulldozers flatten homes. AI tracks targets. Warplanes destroy neighbourhoods. Even travel companies profit by listing Israeli settlements. Francesca Albanese called for a complete arms embargo against Israel. She said that without holding the corporations legally accountable, the genocide won't stop. Israel has rejected the report and the United States urged the UN to expel Albanese for what it calls “her continued virulent anti-semitic activities.” Join The Wire's Youtube Membership and get exclusive content, member-only emojis, live interaction with The Wire's founders, editors and reporters and much more.
